The SEcond Chakra ~ Passion and creativity
While the Root Chakra is satisfied with survival, the 2nd chakra seeks pleasure and enjoyment. A person with an open Svadhisthana Chakra is passionate, present in her body, sensual, creative, and connected to her feeling.
This vibrant chakra can bring us great pleasure when balanced and quite a bit of pain when challenged. Issues with relationships, money and power show up here as does sexual abuse and emotional hardship.

The Sacral Chakra is our passion and pleasure center and it is located in the pelvic area, four fingers below your naval. The gift of this chakra is experiencing our lives through feelings and sensations. The second chakra is the center of feeling, emotion, pleasure, sensuality, intimacy, and connection.
A balanced second chakra allows you to let go, to flow with life, and to feel change and transformation occurring within and around you.
The main challenge for the sacral chakra is the conditioning of our society. We live in a society where feelings are not valued, where passion, and emotional reactions are being frowned upon. We are being taught not to "loose control". And we get disconnected from our bodies, our feelings and become talking heads.
We also experience the wounds of our collective cultural struggles over many sexual issues of our society. On one hand sexuality is magnified and glorified, and on the other hand it is rejected. This results in either blocked or excessive second chakra issues.
Do you love your body? Do you enjoy feeling your body? We are meant to experience and enjoy life on Earth, not simply endure or overcome it, as some spiritual practices would suggest. One of my favorite movies "Chocolat" by Swedish director Lasse Hallstrom comes to mind. The main character Vianne (Juliette Binoche) opens a Chocolatrie in a remote French village and awakens the passion of the villagers. It's quite wonderful, a perfect second chakra movie. There is a scene where Armande (Judi Dench) tells her suppressed grandson to have some chocolate cake despite his mother's disapproval. She tells him to "live a little". I love it!It is healthy to indulge in the "good life" as long as we know to stay balanced and not overdo it. How are you bringing pleasure and satisfaction to your life right now?
The sacral chakra is also your center of creativity. Passion is the fuel of creative energy. Everything you create, a poem, a drawing, or an extravagant meal, originates from the energy of second chakra. A person with a balanced pleasure center knows to take the ordinary mundane routines in life and, with a touch of inventiveness, make them extraordinary. It makes sense that this is also the seat of our fertility, our seeds and our vitality. A fatigued second chakra will make it hard to pursue anything with passion.
When our energy levels are down, we struggle with apathy and a certain"dryness". Depression may follow because this is also the center for our emotional well being. When our lives become too industrial and we push ourselves constantly, our emotional selves suffer. We have little or no time to explore our inner landscape. Our inner child needs play and rest in between the business.
I know exactly how it feels when the dry season is upon me for whatever reasons. My life has become robotic and I feel completely uninspired. My emotions are a roller coaster and I am unable to see the bliss around me. A sense of being stuck has festered. This is when I am reminded to reconnect with the Divine feminine, the nurturing, intuitive and sensual parts of me. I believe this chakra is an issue for a lot of women. We give so much and forget to give to ourselves.
Ways to Balance the Second Chakra
Balancing the second chakra is about returning to and befriending your soul-home. Here are a few suggestions that will send you on your way.
Listen to beautiful music. Make an adventurous meal and set the dinner table with your best china and silver, even if you don't have company. Make sweet love. Take a long, sensuous bath by candlelight in your favorite essential oil. Get up at dawn and watch the sunrise. Go see a play or a show. Write a love letter for self or other. Read beautiful poetry. Get a weekly massage with aromatherapy. Give someone a care basket. Take a walk in the rain and enjoy! Loose yourself in a romantic novel. Share your favorite food with a dear friend. Make sacred art. Fill your home with flowers, sweet insence, bright color and art. Rub Neroli or Patchouli essential oil on the insides of your wrists and inhale several times a day. Check into a health spa or a country bed-and-breakfast for a weekend. Go camping in a breathtaking spot and connect with the sacredness of nature. Turn your bathroom into you own personal spa. Spend some time by a body of water. Buy roses and give to mother ocean to attract love. Drink lots of water.

The second chakra is referred to as our fireplace in the belly. If this fire is kept burning, we are capable of grandiose accomplishments. What in your life brings you the deepest joy and makes you come alive? What steps can you take today to create more of these feelings?
Dance and be wild, play and be free. Celebrate your unique beauty and remember to "live a little".
