A lesson in abundance

In this fertile week of the spring equinox and the "budding trees" full moon, let's nurture ourselves with the juicy energy of Major Arcana card number 3, traditionally called the Empress. When we live life to the fullest, in gratitude for each moment, we are living the principles of this lesson in abundance.

The grounding energy of the Empress can either offer great security to an individual , or it can bring forward an awareness of that which is not stable in one's life. Are we a flowing and vibrant river or does our creative life resemble a dry riverbed? I felt a sting in my heart when I studied this card because self care has been last on my list for a long time, being a busy mother to a young child. My inner child is longing to dream and play. The artist in me has at least one song to write. I must look at how I can find the time to balance my responsibilities with rest and rapture? How can I nurture my creative seeds enough for them to fully blossom? It is very important to heed this call for self care, because there is something inside us of great importance waiting to be born. Something the world needs.

This is a lesson in worthiness and setting healthy boundaries. By showing up for ourselves we show others how we would like to be treated. It is not selfish to care for our soul life. It is necessary.

What does abundance mean to you? Are you ready to receive life's riches on a daily basis because this is a real possibility. We just have to believe we are worthy and remind ourselves to remain open to the goodness that seeks to find us always. This involves checking our beliefs around wealth and how it should come to us. Is it only through back bending labor? When we allow for our inner intuitive to steer the ship, the message is often to engage in less work and more play. A dear friend of mine, who happens to be a single mother of three beautiful children, took a week off and went on a vacation after years of exhausting work. When she came home she found out that she had been accepted to a course she had long been interested in. She also got promoted at work with a significant raise as a result. She was astounded by what happened when she decided to let life come to her for a change. Joy creates miracles and manifestation.

When I see the Empress in a reading, I know the message is to dream a little bigger and expect more for ourselves. It gives us permission to invite more joy and pleasure into our lives.

" The  common effect of pollution in women's creative life is loss of vitality. This disables a woman's ability to create or act "out there" in the world. Though there are times in a woman's cycles of healthy creative life when the river of creativity disappears underground for a time, something is being developed all the same. It is a very different sensation than that of spiritual crisis. "- Clarissa Pinkola Estes, Women Who Run With the Wolves

Any woman or man who lets their creativity and love shine, who tend to their creations with attentiveness and loving concern is expressing the energy of this card.

Healing

"Walk as if you are kissing the Earth with your feet." - Hahn Nhat Thich

This may be a good time to look at your relationship with your mother. Releasing mother issues opens our hearts to accepting more joy and blessings in our lives.

Watch for crippling beliefs about abundance. Are the words you use for your self fostering self love and acceptance, or are you sabotaging yourself with harsh criticism? Negativity makes us freeze. We stop and begin to spiral downwards instead of moving forward.

Examine the ways in which you treat your body each day. Your body is not a machine. Are you engaging in mindless activities to escape how you really feel about your life? A good cry helps free up the energy and a nice cup of rose tea after will help create a feeling of comfort.

Time your creative urges and find out when you are most creative, especially if you tend to get really busy with life. My creative promptings awaken around dusk.

"Art is not meant to be created in stolen moments only." - Clarissa Pinkola Estes

Take long walks in nature and listen close with the earth. The whispers of the wind and water carry the wisdom of the ancestors.

This may be a good time to consider having a child, begin a new creative project, or otherwise express your maternal energy. Deepen your connection with earth, sensuality and the body. Open your arms and celebrate the many blessings coming your way.
