A lesson in receptivity
Be ready to dive into the silent depths of your core Self, when you see Major Arcana card #2, often referred to as the High Priestess.
The High Priestess is associated with water, and moon power. She is a calm, receptive and sensitive woman. She is your inner healer and an important resource on the journey to wholeness. The High Priestess is a channel for higher wisdom, in service of the greater good. Her areas of interest are archetypes, astrology, prophecy and divination. She is an important ally to healers, artists, teachers and visionaries. The High Priestess is also our muse when we study, research, write or compose. She brings the gift of rebirth.
Keywords: Feminine Principle, subconscious, soul-Self, deep feelings, rebirth, new consciousness, dignity, understanding, intuition, reflection, sensitivity, receptivity, subconscious, dreams, retreat, peace, patience, inner resources, vision, insight, wisdom, esoteric knowledge, channel, inner teaching/learning, spiritual power, meditation, seeing in the dark, wise woman, healer, counseling, secrets, undercurrents, hidden agendas, moon power, women’s cycles, imagination, germination of ideas, psychic gifts.
Whatever you may be dealing with in your life, the key message here is to see the world with your eyes closed. The answers to your questions lie within. Meditation, prayer, chanting or any form of quiet reflection will connect you with the higher aspects of your own being and provide a sanctuary at this point.
Silence is the language of the soul. Unless we journey within and spend some quiet time in communion with our soul, we will eventually join the sleepwalkers whose lives are an endless struggle in the dark. The High Priestess is our guide post on the authentic path that we are all called to. She is a representative of the receptive, intuitive mind that knows the divine.
For some, like myself, she is a close ally and must not be cut off. I depend on my connection with my deeper knowing and sensibilities for my work in the world. I know when my life becomes too mechanic, because I feel physically and emotionally unwell. I don't function very well unless I care for my relationship with my divine.
She is the source, the place where seed ideas originate. She is the artist and the nurturer, the gateway to our creativity. I often see an imbalance between the masculine and the feminine powers within, in the readings I do. We have very little time to reflect in our world of constant doing. Reflection and self-care just aren't valued as much and women especially, are natural givers. We must discipline ourselves to retreat from the topside world from time to time so that we can warm the earth of our inner landscape and sow new seeds.
Major Arcana card #1, the Magician, is our masculine aspect and our more outgoing self. This, the artist's arm, is highly valued in our society. Without our inner intuitive and creator, without the gifts of the High Priestess, our artist's arm would not be very busy manifesting however.
It is the way we live our life each day that matters the most. Our everyday life is sacred. As much as possible, foster a mood of inner quiet into your daily life.
Nature is our ally in this quest for peace and connection. Silent retreats away from the noise will strengthen and stabilize all our earthly affairs.
Find the places in the natural world that charges you with spiritual power. Align with the cycles of the moon and the seasons. Explore the Divine Feminine. I highly recommend "If Women Rose Rooted" by Sharon Blackie.
When you draw or are drawn to this card, pay attention to your feelings. They may have an important messages for you. Learn to discern when your feelings are trying to guide you and when they are just reactions to past events.
You may want to keep a dream journal next to your bed for prophetic dreams.
If you wish to play more with your intuition and explore your psychic gifts, "The Psychic Pathway" by Sonia Choquette might be helpful.
Let go of some of your outer activities for a while and free up some time for internal work. You are being guided to live by a deeper wisdom. Treat yourself with profound sacredness. Ask: how can I be more true to myself?
I like to imagine how I visit the High Priestess in her Temple of Wisdom for purification and cleansing. I imagine soaking in two different pools, because she represents water and feeling. One pool cleanses my energy field, and another contains the pure water of renewal and rebirth.
