a lesson in centering and gathering
Major Arcana card #9, The Hermit, is a definite call to go within. An important break from all activities is in the offing. Your path right now is to pay attention to your inner life. Allow your energy to turn inwards. Honor the rhythms of your life force and welcome the pauses that renew your strength.
It is time to relax so completely, that all tension dissolve. Your love ones will understand and grant you the space you require. Genuine answers to your questions arise from this inner resting place, all by themselves. Give your mind a break and listen close with your soul.
Keywords: Solitude, wisdom, wise guidance, help from a healer or teacher, purification and growth, patience, faith and trust, independence, values, inner-search, withdrawal, answers and solutions, discrimination and discernment, self-awareness, self-reliance,lighting the way for others, spiritual awakening, shedding light, the "key" to a situation, crisis, isolation.
This step on the journey to wholeness entails sustained meditation, contemplation, and quiet reflection out of which come awakening and mental clarity.
This is a time of centering and gathering. The Hermit or Crone card will help you shine a light on the areas in need of reflection. Something might be really wrong at the core of life. One might feel empty and directionless, or simply in need of a "time-out" in order to renew and recharge from within. The process here is preparing the unconscious for a rebirth into life at a new level of wisdom and service.
This is a beautiful opportunity to recenter and make sure you are moving from your core. Draw your boundaries with care. There are times in our lives, regardless of age, when we must journey to the soul in order to heed the call of transition and transformation. This passage must not be avoided, because the inner work undertaken at this time will set the karmic records straight and pave the way for a rewarding future life.
I love the energy and symbology of the Hermit or the Crone. In fact, I welcome it with my whole being and look forward to connecting. This going within and receiving answers is an essential part of my life and work. It takes discipline and attentiveness, to nurture one's inner life.
I often draw this card when my husband is gone and I have some quiet time to reflect.
The Hermit almost always shows up when we are going to the family cabin in Sundance. I usually leave this magical forest with a new vision for my life.
One may encounter the Hermit when one is on a solitary journey of self-discovery. The Hermit may be the light that guides our way through the dark of a crisis. A divorce or a loss of career may force us to discover the light within and challenge us to live from there.
The Crone may seek you out, because it is your life's work to guide others. Having learned to heal yourself, you may now function as a healer or offer gifts of divination and prophecy.
The more aware we become aware of our inner needs and patterns, the more we are able to free ourselves from the limiting forces of fear and denial that stand in the way of our life's goals and dreams.
You will need times of solitude so that you can do this work of centering and gathering without distraction. It is a good time to participate in a silent retreat. Or perhaps going on a pilgrimage is how this energy calls you.
Use sage for purification, clarity and healing.
Dream work, expressive art, journaling, and psychotherapy all promote self-discovery.
There are many books that provide support for the seeker. I highly recommend A Modern Shaman's Field Manual by Jeff Nixa and The Mist-Filled Path by Frank MacEowen.
As always spend time in nature. Listen to the wind, the rivers, the trees and the mountains for guidance.
Seek a crone or sage for healing and divination. You may want to explore the services that we offer at Soul Garden Companion if this is your current journey.
