Harmonizing with the Quiet Energies of Winter
Though media and retail will try to tell you otherwise, winter is not about keeping busy and going out into the world. It is a time to retreat, reflect, and find the resting place within. We are meant to hibernate and care for our soul. The seeds of new life are tucked in a deep sleep still.
We invite you to flow with the quiet energy of this magical season, one that marks the journey from this year to the next. Take a moment to offer up gratitude for the gifts in your life.
Winter Solstice - A Celebration of Light
Winter Solstice is celebrated on December 21 in the Northern hemisphere, accompanied by festivals of light all over the world. It is the longest night of the year and the start of the solar year.
Symbolically, the solstice is a time of turning inward, into the darkness, into the depths of the unknown. It’s a time of tuning into a deep sense of intuition—trusting your inner voice. In a sense, it is a time of feeling your way in the dark when you cannot see where you are going. Many people like to use the solstice as a time of deep meditation—to reflect on what has been and what will be. Solstice can be a magical, contemplative time, a night of spiritual reconnection and ritual. A time to celebrate renewal, rebirth, and gratitude for the coming light.
Celebrate! Gather your friends and family for a Winter Solstice Ceremony. Gather around a large outdoor bonfire and celebrate the return of light. Write down anything you may want to let go of and toss it into the fire. Bask in the warm glow of the fire as you welcome a new beginning, honor your ancestors, put conflicts to rest, work with forgiveness, pray for self, other, and the world, do a life review. Ask: What are the buried seeds of new life that are waiting to sprout in 2017? Meditate on gratitude for the many gifts in your life, set an intention for the coming year.
As you review your year, take into account the lesson that humanity has been working on as a collective. Numerology is a time tested theory that studies the effect that numbers have on our lives. We each have a single-digit Personal Year Number and then there is the World Year Number (also called the Universal Year Number) that represents the energy for everyone over a given year. The number 9 was the World Year Number for 2016, because 2 + 0 + 1 + 6 = 9. The number 9 promotes completion. It signals a time to wrap things up and bring them to a conclusion. The year 2016 was a time to consider what has not been working in your life, and to begin doing things a little differently.
Winter has two powerful Full Moons. The Long Snows Moon on December 14 brings a time of quiet and contemplation. The messages you receive from spirit now feel like long lost pieces of a puzzle coming together. The gift of the Long Snows Moon is a slower pace that allows you to weed out the trivial details and recognize what is truly important.
The Earth Renewal Moon on January 12 is the first full moon of the new year. The energies of this moon start to build on the Winter Solstice. The Earth Renewal Moon offers an opportunity to step into the role of teacher and transmitter of light.
Working with the Crown Chakra
It has been a turbulent year. Many have experienced or are experiencing trauma due to the changes we are undergoing in our country. It is therefor important to regroup and reconnect as the year comes to an end. The seventh (crown) chakra is the chakra of unity.
Located at the top of the head, this chakra functions as a portal to our divine self and universal consciousness. It is linked to the infinite. It is through this chakra that we know our unique gifts and soul path. As we merge with the energy of the crown chakra, we feel a state of blissful union with all that is.
The crown allows access to clarity and wisdom. Imbalances can cause depression, sense of separation, fatigue, migraines, and the stress of living in your head. The most powerful way to heal the crown chakra is through meditation. This is because of the ties between the crown chakra and spirituality. Regular meditation practices of all sorts is beneficial. You could focus on its color, violet if this helps.
Yoga is beneficial. Using healing crystals such as Selenite, Clear Quartz, Amethyst and Diamond can also be an effective way to heal the crown chakra.
Flowery essential oils like jasmine, rose and lavender can soothe an overactive crown chakra, while more pungent essential oils like sandalwood, frankincense and myrrh can help stimulate an underactive or blocked Sahasrara.
The crown chakra’s elements are thought and light, so spending time in the sunlight is good for opening the crown chakra.
A Life Path Reading can be very helpful in finding your focus for the new year 2017.
